Congratulations to our under 15 boys who won their Grand Final.
Our Under 15s had a bit of a see-saw season. They started off the season with a couple of strong wins but
fell away a bit mid season. The boys regrouped and finished off the home and away season 3rd on the ladder.
With a top five finals structure they played Noble Park in their first final, which they won quite comfortably by playing as a team out at Sweeney Reserve. The win had given them a shot to play the top of the ladder Narre Warren South, again at Sweeney Reserve . A win in this game would earn them a spot in the grand final and a weeks rest.
The Gators had played Narre Sth twice during the season, Round one where we won by just over 5 goals then on a wet day mid season where Narre Sth beat us by over 10 goals. This game could swing either way!
With the wind blowing hard out at Sweeney, Narre South jumped us with 3 quick goals. Our players struggled to adapt to the conditions and ended up going down by more than 10 goals.
The loss meant the boys had to play Berwick, the side who knocked them out of the Finals in 2016.
The game was held on a wet oval at Narre Foxes home ground. Our boys started the game really well coming into 1/4 time with a couple of goal lead. They continued to control the game until the final siren coming out comfortable winners. The whole team were pretty pumped, including the parents as they were that excited for there boy to play off in a Grand Final after coming close the last two years.
Grand Final week and the rain during the week meant that our boys couldn’t have their regular Wednesday training session but instead ended up playing four square inside the clubrooms. This seemed to give the boys bodies a rest. They had a light training session on the Thursday… finishing off the session with a positive feel.
The Sunday, the boys met outside Casey Fields VFL ground at 8am. They were quite relaxed and looked as if they were just ready to enjoy the experience. Just before they were ready to run out of the rooms, the heavens opened with some heavy rain and hail, making the oval even more wet than what it was the week before. The rain cleared as the boys ran out.
After Narre Sth jumped us by three goals quickly in the last final and held a five goal lead at quarter time, we just needed to be close to them at quarter time so they boys could then start believing it was possible to win.
At quarter time we held a small lead with no goals being scored by neither team due to the wet oval and the pressure. Our boys did seem to be doing all the attacking though.
We had a more dominant 2nd quarter after again keeping Narre Sth Goalless. Once we scored one goal, the boys confidence and work rate lifted further. We went in to the half time break with a 2 goal lead.
After half time the game broke open as much as it could in the wet weather,, keeping Narre South goaless for the whole game, bringing home the chocolates by more than 7 goals which was a huge effort considering the conditions.
Congratulations again boys, this is one day none of us will ever forget!!
